The International Film Festival of Berlin and the Festival of San Sebastian signed a collaboration agreement for the new section: “CULINARY ZINEMA: Cinema and Gastronomy”, jointly organized by Basque Culinary Center and Zinemaldia.The new section of San Sebastian Festival is named after the “CULINARY CINEMA”, the prestigious section of the Berlinale, changing C by Z, a nod to the word ZINEMA, the Basque language translation of the word CINEMA.
In San Sebastian and environs is the highest concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants per square meter in the world and Basque chefs are known and appreciated throughout the world. Mugaritz (2 stars Michelin guide third in the British “Restaurants Magazine”), Arzak (3 star), Martin Berasategui (3 star), Akelarre (3 star) … Andoni Luis Aduriz, Juanmari and Elena Arzak, Martin Berasategui, Pedro Subijana … Restaurants and chefs of the world.San Sebastian also has a competitive film festival in the highest category of FIAPF. Therefore, the festival was almost forced to create a section dedicated to cinema and cuisine.
